Somatic Experiencing è una modalità di trattamento psico-biologico che offre una comprensione globale dello stress traumatico e del comportamento umano sotto stress. SE ci aiuta a identificare dove siamo "bloccati" nelle risposte di lotta, fuga o congelamento, e fornisce strumenti clinici per risolvere questi stati, trasformare vecchi schemi e rafforzare la resilienza.
SE si ispira agli animali selvatici, che quando sono sopraffatti o minacciati attraversano fasi di risposta al pericolo. Queste risposte permettono al loro corpo di attivare sequenze di sopravvivenza, mobilizzare energia e poi ritornare a uno stato di equilibrio una volta passata la minaccia.
Impariamo a scaricare l'energia di sopravvivenza e a integrare l'energia in eccesso, proprio come fanno gli animali, per promuovere il nostro benessere psico-fisico. 🧘♀️

Being told to ‘be yourself’ can be deeply triggering for those whose true selves once endangered their survival and sense of safety. Trauma impacts the nervous system, often causing individuals to develop survival mechanisms that help them cope with their experiences.
Trauma survivors frequently face challenges related to nervous system regulation. Their bodies may remain in a state of heightened alertness or shut down as a defense mechanism. Somatic experiencing, a therapeutic approach focused on the body’s sensations, aims to help individuals reconnect with their bodies, process traumatic experiences, and restore balance to their nervous systems.
When someone has experienced trauma, being their authentic self might have been associated with danger or rejection. Encouraging them to ‘be yourself’ without understanding their history can inadvertently invalidate their experiences and the coping mechanisms they’ve developed. This phrase can trigger memories of past trauma, making them feel unsafe or overwhelmed.
Somatic experiencing helps trauma survivors by allowing them to gradually process traumatic memories and sensations in a safe environment. This approach emphasizes the importance of nervous system regulation, encouraging small, manageable steps towards healing. By focusing on bodily sensations and encouraging gentle exploration, somatic experiencing helps individuals develop a sense of safety and stability within their own bodies.
Instead of urging trauma survivors to ‘be yourself,’ provide a supportive and understanding environment. Encourage them to explore their feelings and experiences at their own pace. Recognize that their journey towards healing involves rebuilding a sense of safety and trust in their own bodies and the world around them.
Empower their healing journey with compassion and understanding. Offer words and actions that support their need for safety and stability. ❤️🩹 🤸♀️
